THEME: The ASEAN Community: Integrating Sustainable Urban and Rural Development

The Economic Society of Singapore (ESS) will be hosting the 38th Annual Conference of the Federation of ASEAN Economic Association (FAEA) from 27th to 29th November 2013 in Singapore. The theme of this year’s Conference is "The ASEAN Community: Integrating Sustainable Urban and Rural Development".

The FAEA comprise the economic associations of the seven ASEAN countries – Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines. The FAEA endeavors to provide useful inputs to economic development of the region. These conferences also raise Singapore's profile as a center for economic research in Southeast Asia. The last three conferences organized by ESS (the 20th, 25th and 31st FAEA Conferences) were particularly successful with more than 300 regional and international economists attending the event.

The theme for this year’s Conference is consistent with Singapore’s vision of being a leading and global city as a hub for innovation, creativity and talent. It also provides a timely forum for in-depth discussions on wider issues such as maintaining favorable rural and urban interactions and relationships, as well as addressing problems and challenges created by rapid urbanization.
